What is Psychotherapy?

There are different types of Psychotherapy. Inchkey uses a combination of therapies; to name but a few – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic-Programming, Brief Therapy, Thought field therapy, couple therapy, Child therapy etc. These many types are ways of assisting people who have stress, emotional issues, relationship problems, behavioural issues etc. These different types of psychotherapy all have a common purpose; they allow clients to talk to a professional to gain insights about themselves, to acquire tools for self understanding/management, and to aid letting go of negative emotions. All this leading to living life the best they possibly can.

Can these different approaches work together?

At Inchkey, I believe that each person is an individual, thus no one type of therapy fits all. It may be necessary to use a combination of techniques that would serve the individual.

What actually happens?

Psychotherapy normally involves regular meetings. These may be once a week or every two weeks. Inchkey normally recommends 4 – 6 sessions. A session can last from 45 minutes to 2 hours. This is agreed with the client at the initial consultation. All sessions are confidential.

Individual therapy involves the Therapist and client working on a one to one basis.

In couple therapy, the Therapist works with each person separately and then works together with the couple for a 2 hour session.
